Yao Chen serves as Xiao Yan's alchemy master and guide in cultivating Dou Qi. When Xiao Yan first acquired the ring from his mother, he discovered Yao Chen already inhabiting it as a spirit. For a while, Yao Chen was actually the culprit behind Xiao Yan's power loss—he'd been secretly draining Xiao Yan's Dou Qi to fuel his own awakening from a prolonged slumber. Once he regained consciousness, though, his dynamic with Xiao Yan shifted into something more collaborative.
