Gouzu and Meizu were brothers who worked as a team, becoming known for their devastating coordination in combat. As Kirigakure chunin, they had a reputation for relentless fighting spirit and lethal teamwork.
The pair were hired by Gato to assassinate the bridge builder Tazuna and sabotage construction on the bridge connecting the Land of Waves to the mainland—essentially crushing any hope the Wave Country had of economic recovery. When they ambushed Tazuna, however, they ran into Team 7, who were escorting him. The fight was brief; the brothers were quickly restrained and tied to a tree.
What made them dangerous was their signature weapon: a pair of heavy metal gauntlets connected by a retractable shuriken chain. They could use this to ensnare enemies and shred them simultaneously. If their chain got neutralized, they could detach it and switch to individual combat using the poisoned claws built into their gauntlets—a versatility that kept opponents off-balance. Despite their skill and coordination, they were outmatched by Team 7.
