Hajime is a second-year student at Ryuumonbuchi High School, where she works as Touka's personal maid. She's known for being level-headed and composed, and Touka vouches for her as a genuinely skilled mahjong player—someone capable of taking down most regular opponents, though she struggles against the real monsters like Saki, Koromo, and Takei.
Her background is pretty unconventional. She grew up with her father, both of them working as magicians just to get by. That career gave her serious sleight-of-hand skills, which she eventually brought into mahjong. When she was younger, she pulled off an illegal move during a school tournament using those tricks, and it looked like she'd won. But the cheating got caught, her team lost anyway, and she quit mahjong entirely for a while.
Touka eventually tracked her down, wanting her on Ryuumonbuchi's team specifically because of how skilled she was. Hajime wasn't interested in playing again—she wanted to move past that whole incident. The decision basically got taken out of her hands when her father sold her to the Ryuumonbuchi family, which is just as dark as it sounds.
That's when Touka laid down the terms: Hajime could play for the school, but she'd have to wear chains during matches that locked down her hand movements to keep her from cheating. On top of that, she'd become Touka's maid. It's a weird arrangement, but it worked. Despite the restrictions and the rough start, Hajime ended up building genuine bonds with her teammates. She's especially close with Touka and Koromo, and she's come to think of the whole team as family.
