Kentarou's a skilled hacker who spent his student years breaking into corporate systems and flogging the stolen data on the dark web—and he never lost sleep over it. As far as he was concerned, it was the companies' own fault for having garbage security. Everything changed when Nagi pulled him out of that life. He immediately fell hard for her and started throwing himself into helping with her work, though Nagi keeps him on a short leash, worried he'll get himself killed or seriously hurt. He takes this the wrong way, interpreting her caution as doubt in his abilities, so he keeps trying to tackle problems solo just to prove he's capable.
He's been tight with Shirou Tanaka since elementary school. It's interesting that despite his hacker background, Kentarou's actually the more outgoing of the two—he's the one laughing openly when Sakiko Michimoto does something ridiculous, while Shirou's trying to shush him. That said, Kentarou's self-aware enough to admit Shirou's more dependable than he is, and he's genuinely grateful to have him around.
