Kuwabara's got three main guys who hang around him: Kirishima, Okubo, and Sawamura (known as Miyamoto and Komada in the English dub). They're basically his crew. Okubo's got it rough at home—his mother's constantly sick and can't work much, so he picked up a job to keep the household afloat.
The three of them show up again during the Chapter Black arc. They catch a Megallica concert with Kuwabara, but the trip home goes south fast when they run into Kiyoshi Mitarai, aka Seaman. He throws some water-based monsters at them and they nearly drown before Kuwabara pulls through and saves them. After that, Kuwabara carries all three plus Mitarai on his back to Yusuke's place and basically collapses.
Once they fill Kurama in on what went down, he decides to wipe their memories of the whole thing so they wouldn't have to deal with the weight of it. Kurama sends them home with no recollection of any of it.
Kirishima ended up placing 9th in the first character popularity poll with 219 votes.
