Koyuki Hikawa is a high school student who's basically trapped in her own head most of the time. She's the type to overthink a casual conversation for hours afterward, and her default mode is keeping people at arm's length—partly because she's convinced they'll disappoint her, partly because she's convinced she'll disappoint them. Past relationship baggage definitely doesn't help.
What makes her interesting is that she wants to change. She's aware of how isolated she's made herself, and there's this underlying desire to actually connect with people on a real level instead of putting on walls. The thing is, vulnerability terrifies her. Letting someone in means risking getting hurt, and she's already been there.
Her character arc is basically about learning to trust—both in herself and in other people's genuine kindness. It's slower than it might be for someone else, and she probably still second-guesses everything, but the growth is there. She's working toward actually opening up, even when every instinct tells her to protect herself first.
