Koinzell is the new identity of Ascheriit, one of the so-called Lances of Betrayal. He started as an orphan trained at Ms. Gleaa's swordsmanship academy, where he became such a prodigy that he earned the ancient title of Blade Master after mastering the legendary Black Wing technique. He was then selected as one of fourteen youths chosen to wield the Emperor's spears and end the war with Wischtech—and one of only four who actually completed the mission.
His reward for success was betrayal. His companions, who would later become known as the Seven Heroes, murdered him brutally. Glenn, his closest friend, gouged out his left eye before the others carved him to pieces. Koinzell survived by consuming a fairy, which restored his body but fundamentally changed him—his human blood mixed with faerie essence, leaving him with an androgynous child-like appearance, pale skin, and red eyes.
He's considered one of the series' strongest fighters, combining masterful swordsmanship (particularly the Black Wing) with the ability to manifest massive black chainswords from his right wrist. Most of the time he comes across as cold and merciless while hunting down his betrayers, but those close to him know he's capable of genuine care and self-sacrifice. Fans often note this duality—that beneath the vengeance-driven exterior, he's still fundamentally the hero he was before everything fell apart.
The twin moons of his world empower him. Push him too far, though, and he'll shrink into his fairy form until he's had time to recover.
