Kagari is a mysterious girl who's thrown in her lot with Hakubi, though how they actually met remains unclear. She's a normal high school student living in the 1920s—not some ageless supernatural being like the surviving onmyoji from the Heian period temple—but she has an unnaturally sophisticated grasp of cursing for someone her age.
Her specialty is needle-based curses. The real weapon in her arsenal is a "puppet needle" that's been in her family for generations. She used it to control Mao, forcing him to attack his own friends and even transform into his powerful cat form just to test Soma's summoned beast. Turns out Hakubi had tracked down her father during his military service, learned the Hosho family possessed this particular needle, and realized it was actually a stolen artifact from his temple. He didn't hesitate to leverage that fact to bring the whole family under his control.
At school, Kagari hangs around with other girls who mess around with cursing as a hobby—or at least that's what they think they're doing. She quickly reveals herself to be operating on a completely different level. One of her classmates ended up trapped in constant nightmares of dying for five days without ever waking up, which made it pretty clear that Kagari isn't just playing around.
