Melmetal is a large, silver Pokémon built mostly from liquid metal in a vaguely humanoid shape. Dark-gray hexagonal nuts cover its body—shoulders, arms, hands, feet, and torso—while a larger golden nut wraps around its neck and another serves as its head. A small dark sphere floats inside that head, and a red tail like an electrical wire dangles from its back.
The standout feature is its arms. Those hex nut limbs are still flexible despite Melmetal's overall durability, and it uses centrifugal force to deliver what's supposedly the strongest punch of any Pokémon. When it throws a hit, the nuts slide down its arms as if beefing up its fists.
The legend and biology
Melmetal is a Pokémon that mysteriously returned after 3,000 years of dormancy. Ancient civilizations worshiped it for what seemed like magic—the ability to forge metal from nothing. It apparently lived deep in wooded areas rich with magnetite-bearing rocks, and humans collected the metal it naturally shed to craft their tools. The evolution process hardened its body, though it retained that liquid-metal flexibility. According to the lore, a single dominant Meltan absorbs the rest of its group to evolve into Melmetal, and when Melmetal finally breaks down at the end of its life, it shatters into new Meltan.
Gigantamax form
In its Gigantamax state, Melmetal becomes a massive cyclopean giant straight out of legend. Its hex nuts redistribute across a larger frame—five per hand, two per foot, two under each shoulder, and two connecting to a massive golden nut at its chest. The head resembles a knight's helmet crowned with three red clouds, with a golden nut and glowing sphere inside. This form leans into that liquid-metal property, letting Melmetal throw devastating punches while staying mobile. By clamping its fist nuts together, it can create even larger hands. The real power, though, comes from its belly: Gigantamax Melmetal can release enormous electric beams capable of vaporizing anything in their path, generated by the flow of liquid metal coursing through its body.
