Mr. Shellby is a character who appeared in the episode "Extreme Pokémon!" He runs the Shellby Ranch in Eggseter alongside his wife, and the two specialize in caring for Pokémon eggs and their newly hatched babies until they're old enough to fend for themselves. They call themselves Pokémon Nesters.
Beyond ranch work, the Shellbys are fixtures in their town's annual Extreme Pokémon competition. The race requires all participants to pick up a dummy egg at their ranch and carry it across the finish line. Ash managed to complete the challenge, and as thanks for helping save their Pokémon during the event, the Shellbys rewarded him with an egg that later hatched into a Phanpy.
Mr. Shellby was later mentioned by Ash and Brock in the episode "Hatching a Plan."
