Futoshi is a resident of the Planet of Tomorrow who lives in a boarding house. He's a manga artist, though not a particularly successful one—he's pretty open about the fact that he hasn't sold a single copy of his work. When Tetsuro and Maetel show up and stay at the same boarding house, Futoshi and Tetsuro hit it off pretty quickly. He's eager to show Tetsuro his manga collection, and the two bond over their shared love of ramen, which becomes a running point of connection between them.
