Shirogane Saiga (real name Éléonore) is a French woman who moved to Japan primarily to look after Masaru Saiga, driven by a sense of obligation to his family—particularly his grandfather Shoji, who once helped her own family out. Though she frames it as repaying a debt, her actual ties to the Saiga family run deeper and messier than that simple explanation suggests.
She grew up as an orphan in Quiberon, France, where she was trained from a young age in puppet manipulation, though the methods used were harsh and exploitative. This background eventually led her to become a circus performer, and later Masaru's bodyguard and caretaker. She's best known for controlling Harlequin, one of the series' most formidable puppets.
