Akifumi had the rare ability to see youkai as a kid. He used that gift to meet Hotaru by the lake, and he fell hard for her. They'd spend their time together playing around near the water, just enjoying each other's company.
Eventually, he lost the ability to see youkai entirely. But that didn't stop him—he kept going back to that same lake, hoping to find Hotaru again. Even without being able to see her world anymore, he couldn't let her go.
