Tadakatsu is a devoted warrior who's sworn absolute loyalty to Ieyasu, positioning himself as the unshakeable blade his lord needs in battle. He's earned a reputation for both his combat prowess and his spotless military record—something he's genuinely proud of. He'll openly challenge anyone claiming to be his equal, though he's also quick to acknowledge worthy fighters when he sees them.
Despite his image as a stern, powerful soldier, Tadakatsu is actually quite formal and thoughtful. He has a deep respect for his spear, Tonbo-giri, treating it almost like a trusted companion rather than just a weapon. He genuinely believes it fights alongside him.
One of his quirks is that he rarely uses standard pronouns in Japanese dialogue, instead referring to himself by his full name, his samurai name Heihachirō, or some combination of the two. When he does use pronouns, he sticks to the humble forms typical of samurai.
On a personal level, he's a devoted father. His daughter looks up to him and models her conduct after his own, which he's proud of—though he also pushes her to stay focused on serving their lord without hesitation or doubt.
Early on in the series, he served as an important advisor to Ieyasu alongside his combat role, but as the story progresses, his position as a general gradually becomes the main focus.
