Makoto lives at a shrine with her father and Gintaro, a fox herald who serves as a messenger of the gods. She's known for being kind and strong-willed, though her stubborn nature tends to get her into situations she hasn't fully thought through—which is where Gintaro usually has to bail her out. Only she and Satoru can see Gintaro, and he's become an incredibly important person in her life.
Makoto gained the ability to see heralds after her mother died when she was still very young, before turning four. Since then, she's relied on Gintaro's guidance more times than she can count, though she doesn't always ask for help before diving headfirst into something.
