Avan De Ziniur III is the legendary hero who took down the Demon King Hadlar—though not without cost. Back when he was younger, he was basically goofing off with Princess Flora of the kingdom of Carl and Loca, the kingdom's general. He kept his real power hidden behind thick glasses, playing the goof-off act so nobody would know what he was actually capable of.
When Hadlar made a move to kill Flora, Avan dropped the act and revealed his true strength to protect her and the entire kingdom. He didn't completely finish Hadlar that first time around, so he set out on a journey with Loca to find the allies he'd need. Along the way he met Leyla—Maam's mother—and Matoriv, a seriously powerful magician. Together they managed to defeat Hadlar once and for all.
After that victory, Avan shifted gears and decided to train the next generation of heroes instead of adventuring himself. But when Hadlar gets resurrected and comes back stronger than ever, Avan makes the ultimate sacrifice. He casts Megante, a self-sacrifice spell, to protect Dai, Brass, and Pop from the returning threat.
