Gilbert Beilschmidt
Prussia was a nation that no longer exists—dissolved by the Allies in 1947. Gilbert embodies that warrior spirit: aggressive, combative, and famously commitment-phobic. He's got platinum blonde hair and deep violet-red eyes, though early designs showed him with darker blonde hair and blue eyes instead.
He and Hungary have a complicated history. As a kid, Gilbert assumed she was male based on her rough demeanor and build, so he picked on her constantly. When he eventually found out the truth, things got awkward fast—and honestly, they still don't get along great, trading old grudges and competitive jabs. That said, Hungary apparently admitted she'd be devastated if something happened to him, which clearly gets under his skin when he sees her hanging around Austria.
His younger brother Germany (whom he calls "West") is basically his opposite: responsible, organized, and perpetually exasperated by Gilbert's terrible taste in home décor and general chaos. They drink together and bicker like siblings do, but there's genuine affection there. After Prussia was dissolved, he moved in with Germany and never left. Gilbert's also weirdly fond of Italy—he's got photos of him all over his blog, calls him "Italy-chan," and seems genuinely attached.
Russia, on the other hand? Total enemy. Gilbert used to be terrified of him, but that fear faded once Germany became strong enough to handle his own. This makes Gilbert incredibly proud of his little brother.
Personality-wise, he's fiercely loyal and obsessed with being stronger and "more awesome" than everyone else. Germany's noted that he basically has zero common sense, though what looks like recklessness is actually soldier-like discipline hidden under terrible manners. He's left-handed, probably blood type A, and has an unexplained pet yellow bird (fans call it "Gilbird") that hangs out on his shoulder. He apparently had no idea the bird existed until someone emailed him about it.
He refers to himself as "Ore-sama"—a deliberately rough, self-aggrandizing way of saying "I." Fans also call him "Gilbo," though that's not official. His surname was sometimes mistranslated as "Weillschmidt" early on, but "Beilschmidt" is the proper German rendering.
