Kirio Hikifune is a former captain of the 12th Division who now serves in the Royal Guard.
She's best known for her close relationship with her lieutenant, Hiyori Sarugaki, who became deeply attached to her—so much so that Hiyori came to regard her as a mother figure. But roughly 110 years before the main story, Kirio left the Gotei 13 to join the Royal Guard. Kisuke Urahara took over as captain in her absence, though Kirio notably didn't show up to his inauguration ceremony.
