Yota was a young boy from a mysterious traveling clan with the rare ability to manipulate weather. His clan made their living using these powers, but Yota himself was born frail and died of natural causes before the series even began—only to be brought back as one of Orochimaru's test subjects for his Impure World Reincarnation experiments.
Orochimaru sent Yota to Konohagakure, where he first crossed paths with Chōji, Shikamaru, and Ino after Chōji's thrown kunai pinned him to a tree. Yota's tears triggered a downpour that collapsed the tree and freed him. The trio decided to keep him hidden from the adults (tensions between villages were already running high) and set him up in a makeshift treehouse, regularly sneaking him food.
Once Yota met Kiba, Akamaru, and Sakura—and particularly after befriending Naruto, who taught him to whistle—he grew braver, even pulling pranks around the village. But things fell apart when Yota misread Naruto's words during hide-and-seek as rejection and bolted, exposing himself to the ANBU. The kids had to stage a rescue.
On their escape, the group tried crossing a treacherous river. Naruto, Shikamaru, and Chōji got swept away, and though Yota saved them, he nearly drowned in the process. Realizing his presence only put his friends at risk, he erased their memories of him and left the village, disappearing into isolation—eventually falling under Kabuto Yakushi's control.
