Adolf comes across as intimidating and can be pretty blunt at first, but he's genuinely one of the kindest people around. He'll risk his own life without hesitation to protect anyone he cares about. His wife put him through a lot—enough that most people would've left—but he couldn't bring himself to divorce her because she was the first person to make him feel human. In the anime, you see this compassion early on: as a kid, he volunteered to be a test subject for the M.O. Operation specifically so other children wouldn't have to suffer through it.
He's built up a confident, even menacing front over the years, mostly because of how he looks. But that's armor for the loneliness underneath. Away from all that, Adolf's talented in the kitchen and can cook just about anything. His favorite meal is whatever his wife prepares—particularly her curry—though he used to be more into cabbage rolls. Pretty minor thing, but he apparently has strong opinions about trash cans that snap shut too aggressively.
