Akira comes from money—the Oono family's got serious wealth—but that doesn't mean her home life is great. At school, she's got it all: talented, popular, the kind of person who excels at whatever she tries. Nobody would guess she's dealing with anything heavy.
What they don't see is how often she disappears to the arcade. It's her escape, plain and simple.
That's where she meets Haruo. After they play each other, something clicks between them. They bond over games, which honestly seems to be the only place either of them can really be themselves.
The thing about Akira: she doesn't talk. At all. So she's gotten good at saying everything else—through looks, hand gestures, the occasional shove or punch if she's feeling dramatic. Her expressions do most of the heavy lifting in conversations, which makes her weirdly expressive despite being completely silent.
