He was a skilled flute player and served as an important mentor and emotional support for young Kurama Shinjirou, especially during the rough periods when Jirou mocked him for being unable to fly.
Jirou eventually blamed Suirou for coddling Kurama and holding him back. In a harsh attempt to force the issue, Jirou threw Kurama into a deep crevice where the Raijiuyuu—a dangerous creature—slept. The only way out was to fly, or be eaten.
When Suirou learned what happened, he immediately flew down into the cave to rescue Kurama. He was struck by lightning in the attempt and lost his ability to fly as a result. Kurama, suffering only minor injuries, managed to escape on his own.
