Roger ran the Pokémon Showboat, a traveling performance where trained Pokémon acted out plays while people provided their voices. He basically created interactive theater with Pokémon as the stars.
Things went south when Team Rocket snuck aboard one night to steal the whole cast. During the fight that broke out, Weezing hit everyone with Smokescreen—and while it seemed harmless at the time, Roger woke up the next day completely voiceless. With the big show coming up and no way for him to perform his part, Kay stepped in and convinced Ash to cover for him. Ash ended up doing the voice work for Roger's character, and the performance went off without a hitch.
Roger appeared in "Stage Fight!" (Episode 92).
