Wei Wuxian is the main character of the story—an only child born to Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze. After his parents died during a Night Hunt, Jiang Fengmian took him in, and he grew up at Lotus Pier as part of the Jiang Clan, essentially raised as a brother to Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli.
He's known for being smart, inventive, and genuinely good-hearted, though also mischievous and optimistic to a fault. What really sets him apart as a cultivator isn't raw talent following the usual rules—it's his ability to invent completely new spiritual techniques. Most famously, he created the Demonic Path, an unconventional method that earned him the title Yiling Patriarch. His arsenal included the sword Suibian, the flute Chenqing, and various weapons powered by demonic cultivation.
During his studies at Cloud Recesses under the Lan Clan, he met Lan Wangji and became infamous for constantly breaking rules. He eventually got kicked out after punching Jin Zixuan for disrespecting Jiang Yanli, then headed back to Yunmeng to keep training.
He died in the First Siege of the Burial Mounds—thirteen years before the main story begins. He was later brought back when a ritual pulled him into the body of Mo Xuanyu. Traveling with Lan Wangji to investigate a mysterious severed arm, he ends up falling in love with him in the process.
On a personal note, Wei Wuxian is terrified of dogs due to trauma from the streets after his parents' death. He's got a taste for Emperor's Smile wine and spicy food, though.
