Arthur is a secondary character who starts out uncertain about his future. As the son of Knight Commander Roderick, he was expected to follow in his father's footsteps, but he initially gave up on becoming a knight because he didn't think his Special Ability would cut it in combat. That changes in "To a Beam of Light With You," when he takes over his father's position after Roderick's death during a mercenary attack.
The game version of Arthur is defined by tragedy and revenge. He watched his father die in a landslide triggered during an ambush orchestrated by the bandit Val, and Pride's callous disrespect toward Roderick's memory only made things worse. Consumed by grief and his father's memory, Arthur devoted himself to vengeance and becoming a knight even stronger than Roderick was. He eventually developed a deep hatred for Tiara simply because she was Pride's sister—a resentment that only faded after Tiara managed to heal his emotional wounds.
The anime takes Arthur in a completely different direction. While he still respects his father and has comparable combat skills, he never becomes the vengeful person we see in the game. He does witness his father nearly dying during Val's ambush, but Pride saves him, and Arthur is deeply moved by her kindness and determination to keep her word. That moment breaks something open in him—he cries knowing his father is alive—and from then on, his entire life revolves around protecting Pride. His devotion to her extends to the entire royal family and kingdom. He and Stale become genuine friends and rivals, and Arthur ends up being treated as part of the royal family himself.
