Tokimi is one of three Chousin—godlike beings from a higher dimension—alongside her sisters Tsunami and Washu. For eons, the three of them have been obsessed with a single question: can something more powerful than themselves actually exist? While her sisters pursued their own paths to find the answer, Tokimi stayed home and got creative, manipulating subspace fields with help from interdimensional guardians like D3 to test the theory. She even brought in outside help, including the scientist Dr. Clay.
One experiment seemed to pay off when a being called Z absorbed massive power during a space battle, including the reality-warping Lighthawk wings. Tokimi made him her servant so she could study him up close. Problem was, Z turned out to be unstable and dangerously aggressive—left alone, he'd probably destroy everything. So she kept searching, and when Dr. Clay tipped her off about something interesting, she discovered her sisters had been watching someone: a kid named Tenchi Masaki who also wielded Lighthawk wings.
Curious, Tokimi ordered Z to keep tabs on Tenchi without interfering. Z didn't listen. He saw Tenchi as competition and decided to kill him—but make it look like someone else did it. He doctored a message from Mihoshi to her family so her grandfather would send her brother Misao after Tenchi. When that failed, Z stopped playing games. He attacked directly, nearly destroying Earth in the process and fighting Tenchi near Saturn.
Just as Z was about to finish him off, Tokimi finally stepped in. But Z had an ace up his sleeve: an entity called the Counter-Actor that could take different forms. First it appeared as a red ring trapping Tenchi, blocking Tokimi from helping. Later, when the Chousin sisters joined forces to contain Tenchi's spiraling power, the Counter-Actor morphed into a demonic version of Empress Misaki and choked Tokimi out. Tenchi managed to regain control and calm the Counter-Actor before things got fatal.
Afterwards, when Mikami Kuramitsu confronted Misao and Minami about their role in the assassination attempt, Tokimi revealed a new form—she appeared as a small child. She needed to leave and fix some cosmic damage, but she made it back in time for Nobuyuki and Rea Masaki's wedding.
Tokimi also got involved when they discovered someone had been tampering with Noike's cells, leaving Dr. Clay's signature all over them. Turns out Noike had been harboring a mysterious girl that haunted Tokimi's dreams. Tokimi extracted the girl while Washu scrubbed out Clay's modifications. The girl turned out to be the abandoned female half of Kagato, the villain they'd dealt with before. Once everything was handled, Tokimi put her back.
Whether Tokimi sticks around with the Masaki family long-term remains unclear.
