Shizuno Takakamo is a first-year student at Achiga Girls' Academy in Nara Prefecture and the protagonist of the "Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A" manga. She's best known for her infectious enthusiasm and never-say-die attitude at the mahjong table.
Shizuno and Nodoka Haramura were close friends back in elementary school, bonding over mahjong in Achiga's club where Shizuno was the second-best player. When the club eventually disbanded, she thought that was the end of it—until she saw Nodoka on TV winning the middle school individual championship. That's when everything clicked: Shizuno decided to revive the club once she got to high school, with a single-minded goal of making it to nationals so she could finally face Nodoka in competition.
As a person, she's exactly what you'd expect from someone with that kind of drive. She's energetic and athletic, gets excited easily, and would rather be hanging out with her teammates than anywhere else. What really sets her apart though is how she shows up for the team. When morale dips or things look hopeless, Shizuno's the one cheering everyone on and keeping spirits up. Her refusal to give up—whether she's losing a round or her team's struggling—has made her a genuinely formidable player.
