Adjutant Black doesn't get much screen time in Dragon Ball, but he's memorable for being soft-spoken and sharp—the kind of guy who actually pays attention to what's happening around him. He's also notable as one of the few Black characters in the original series.
Black's main job is relaying Commander Red's orders and keeping him updated on the Red Ribbon Army's situation. But he reaches his breaking point when Red starts going on about his obsession with becoming taller, completely brushing off how many soldiers have died because of it—especially after Goku's rampage through their ranks. When Red dismisses Black's concerns and makes it clear he's just another disposable lackey, Black snaps. He shoots Red in the head, killing him on the spot.
The anime takes things further: Black tries to rebuild the army under his own command—the Black Ribbon Army—and even offers Goku a spot in it. Goku turns him down, obviously. Black makes one last attempt to kill Goku using a robotic suit, but it doesn't work out. Goku takes him down.
