Jin is a member of the Shadow Channelers team—officially known as the Shinobi of the Spirit World—during the Dark Tournament. He's basically inseparable from his teammate Touya, and the two stick together even after the tournament ends. They're clearly close, though Jin gets notably irritated by their brutish third teammate, Bakken.
What stands out about Jin is his personality. He's cheerful and upbeat, speaks with a strong Irish accent, and has an interesting philosophy about fighting: he believes competitors shouldn't carry outside grudges into matches and should actually enjoy themselves, even when battling for their lives. It's a surprisingly mature take from someone so easygoing. That said, his sunny demeanor masks a genuinely talented fighter who throws himself completely into every match.
His signature ability is wind manipulation. He can float, conjure miniature cyclones around his fists, or unleash full-blown tornadoes—pretty devastating stuff.
In his Dark Tournament matchup against Team Urameshi, Jin finally got the fight he wanted: one-on-one with Yusuke. They traded heavy attacks back and forth until Jin got knocked out of the arena. He lost, technically, though a trick by the team's owner got the result counted as a tie instead.
After the Dark Tournament, Kurama recruits him for the Makai Tournament to work under one of the three Demon Lords, Yomi. Before competing, Jin trains under Genkai and jumps from upper C Class all the way to upper A Class. During the tournament itself, he faces Souketsu, a former rival of Raizen—Yusuke's ancestral father and a thunder god. Flashbacks show Souketsu being defeated by the now-deceased Raizen.
