A shrine maiden with an unrequited love for Inuyasha that defined her character throughout the series. Fifty years before the story begins, Naraku—disguised as Inuyasha—killed her, effectively tearing the two apart. She's later resurrected by the ogress Urasue, though the resurrection comes with a major catch: while she appears and acts alive, her body remains technically dead. To function and move around, she needs to consume the souls of the dead, which creates an ongoing horror to her existence that goes beyond just being brought back wrong.
