Rin is the story's fifteen-year-old protagonist and, as it turns out, the son of Satan—born from Satan and a human woman. He's inherited his father's powers, which makes him pretty much the last person anyone expected to show up at an exorcist academy.
His demonic heritage bleeds through even in human form: sharper teeth, slightly pointed ears, and a black, fur-tufted tail he keeps tucked in his shirt. When he taps into his true power by drawing Kurikara (also called Koumaken), a demon-slaying katana passed down to him, everything changes. The sheath literally acts as a portal to Gehenna, the demon realm, and pulling the blade triggers his full transformation. His ears elongate and point out, his eyes glow bright blue, and those signature blue flames—the same ones Satan commands—ignite above his head.
Here's the thing: Rin can almost control those flames. The problem is that once he draws Kurikara, the power amplifies massively, and he tends to lose himself to it, consumed by his own fire. It's a constant struggle.
Outside of combat, Rin's surprisingly domestic. He's genuinely talented in the kitchen and can throw together just about anything—Japanese comfort food, Western dishes, you name it. He's also got a demon Familiar, a cat named Kuro, who originally belonged to Father Fujimoto.
