Nanase Matsuura is one of Ranka Lee's closest friends and a classmate of Alto, Michael, and Luca. She's quiet and shy, works alongside Ranka at the Nyan-Nyan restaurant, and has been her biggest cheerleader since the early days of Ranka's singing career. Beyond that, Nanase is genuinely talented at drawing—good enough that Grace eventually hired her as Ranka's costume designer.
Things took a serious turn when the Vajra attacked inside Macross Frontier. Nanase was badly injured, particularly in her right eye and across much of her body. Sheryl Nome found her and got her to shelter for medical treatment, which likely saved her life.
