Ruralman is best known as a farmer who first crosses paths with Mantaro Kinniku during the Japanese preliminaries of the Chojin Olympics, where he loses to him. Despite this early defeat, he sticks around and becomes Mantaro's second and trainer during the main tournament after Meat gets sidelined by injury. He wears "JA" on his shirt in the manga version and "こめ" (rice) in the anime—a detail that hammers home his farming background. The English dub calls him "El Niño," which doesn't quite land the same way.
