Taka is one of the kids Ryuuichi watches in the daycare. His mom, Shizuka, teaches science at the middle school, and his dad—revealed later in the series—is Hebihara Taizou, a chemistry teacher at the high school. He's got an older brother, Hayato, who he really looks up to, though their dynamic is pretty complicated. Hayato occasionally shows genuine affection, but mostly he just bonks Taka on the head as a "punishment"—a running gag that never gets old in the manga. Taka doesn't hesitate to complain about it either, muttering "Baka Aniki" (stupid older brother) whenever it happens.
The kid's a chatterbox and gets along well with pretty much everyone at the daycare, especially his close friend Kotarou. He's really into playing hero games and has that typical little-brother energy—enthusiastic, a bit dramatic when he's upset, the whole package.
