Mammon is a member of the Varia, the elite assassination unit, and one of the Arcobaleno—holders of the cursed Pacifiers that grant them special powers. He carries the Indigo Pacifier and has spent years researching ways to break the curse, which sets him apart from his peers. His real name is Viper, though he goes by Mammon, a Biblical reference to the false god of greed and wealth.
During the Ring battles, Mammon fights Chrome for the Ring of Mist in Namimori High's gym. He nearly wins, but the tide shifts once Mukuro takes control of Chrome's body, and Mammon ends up defeated and stripped of his Ring. By the Future arc, he's stated to be dead.
What makes Mammon stand out is the custom chain he engineered to mask the power signatures of both Arcobaleno Pacifiers and Vongola Rings—a fact he reveals to Reborn and Colonello, who had questioned whether he was actually an Arcobaleno at all. He's also got an unusual tracking ability: he sneezes into a piece of paper he carries, and the resulting map shows him exactly where someone is. Like Mukuro, he can create illusions.
His companion is a black frog named Phantasma that perches on his head.
