A skilled swordsman in service to the Yomogawa family, he works as Ayame's personal bodyguard. His combat ability stands out even among other Bushi—he's genuinely talented with a blade. He's the serious type, straightforward and committed to his code of honor, which means he doesn't always play well with others.
He starts off resenting Ikoma, mostly because of what Ikoma is, but eventually comes around to acknowledging that Kabaneri actually have their uses. Later, he gets upgraded to a reinforced katana specifically designed to pierce a Kabane's heart, which suits his style of direct, no-nonsense action just fine.
