A Japanese high schooler living alone in an apartment after losing both parents in a car accident. He's carried guilt about it for years—his father was distracted by him when the crash happened. He ended up drafted into an adventuring party tasked with taking down a Demon Lord. Pretty standard fantasy stuff, except it actually worked. What wasn't standard was Mariabelle, a fellow party member who fell hard for him. After he got sent back to Earth following their victory, she literally followed him here, which he didn't exactly plan for.
He does care about her—that part's genuine. But Mariabelle isn't subtle about her feelings. Her constant flirting and suggestive advances leave him completely flustered and uncomfortable most of the time. Fans often note the comedic contrast between his earnest, awkward reactions and her relentless pursuit.
