Masahiro is a tall guy with wavy dark hair and a goatee. He's got a striking resemblance to his grandson Hayato Kasukabe—the kind of thing where you can see how Hayato will probably look just like him once Hayato has kids of his own.
He lost his right arm trying to save Tatsuta when the Familia caught fire, which left him unable to work. That's shaped a lot about who he is now.
On the surface, Masahiro comes across as blunt and rude. He'll tell people exactly what he thinks, even when it's not flattering. His employees respect him anyway because he's actually a solid leader who looks out for them in his own gruff way. He claims he doesn't like getting involved in other people's drama, but he can't help himself—especially when it comes to protecting his loved ones. He'll get physical if he needs to.
Underneath all that gruff exterior, though, he's genuinely kind. He'll drop everything to help someone who needs it, but then he'll act like he didn't do anything and won't admit it meant something to him. He's got a hard time being honest about his feelings or what he actually cares about, mostly because he's too embarrassed.
Hayato picked up a lot of these same traits: the inability to lie, a hatred of dishonesty, that reluctant-helper thing where he pretends not to care but always gets involved anyway, the emotional guardedness, and that fundamental kindness buried under a unfriendly exterior.
