Takuya's in his sixth year of medical school and has just begun his hospital rotation to work toward becoming a pediatrician. On his first day walking through the halls, he spots a crying little girl and stops to check on her. That's when he runs into Mio, a nurse about his age who's also noticed the kid. The moment he gets a closer look at her, it hits him—this is Mio, his childhood best friend. They haven't seen each other in six years.
Once they have a chance to catch up, they quickly fall back into their old rhythm. But one afternoon while talking on the stairwell, a boy accidentally shoves Mio and she loses her footing. Takuya grabs her hand and goes down with her, taking the brunt of the fall to shield her. He blacks out and wakes up in a hospital bed with a broken right arm and broken left leg.
Mio feels terrible about it and tells him she'll do anything to make it up to him. Takuya asks her to be his caregiver during his recovery—specifically to look after his hospital room. She agrees, and just like that, the two of them start a whole new chapter together.
