Anna Williams first appeared as a sub-boss fight against Nina in the original Tekken, though she wasn't playable until the console port. In Nina's arcade ending, she famously accuses her sister of stealing one of her shoes—a detail fans still joke about today.
By the second tournament, Anna had become a bodyguard for Kazuya Mishima alongside Ganryu and Bruce Irvin. When Nina was hired to assassinate Kazuya, Anna's protection detail likely interfered with the job. Nina ended up captured by the Mishima Zaibatsu and thrown into cryonic suspension as part of Doctor Boskonovitch's experiments. Anna then made a controversial choice: she volunteered to be frozen too, specifically requesting to be awakened at the same time as Nina. Whether she did this out of loneliness, jealousy, or genuine sisterly concern has never been entirely clear.
Eighteen years later, both sisters woke up—but Nina had been mentally conditioned by the ancient fighter Ogre to become an assassin again, while Anna remained unaffected. The cryosleep had also damaged Nina's memory. Surprisingly, Anna tried to help her sister recover, seemingly bent on keeping her from falling back into a life of contract killing.
Their reunion went badly. When Nina's buried hostility resurfaced, she opened fire on Anna without hesitation. The two ended up in a prolonged gunfight that lasted days, eventually leading to a stalemate. They agreed to settle their rivalry once and for all at the Fifth Iron Fist Tournament. You can actually see the tail end of their conflict in Tekken 5's intro sequence.
After losing to Nina at the tournament, Anna wanted payback. But Nina had already disappeared into hiding—or so Anna heard. Rumor had it she'd become Jin Kazama's bodyguard and was working with the Mishima Zaibatsu. So Anna made her move: she joined forces with G Corporation, the Mishimas' rival organization.
