Shiro ended up living with an elderly woman named Masae, who took her in. When Masae's son Shou spotted Shiro in her true form, he panicked and reached out to Kitarou for backup. That's when things got heavy—Kitarou revealed that Shiro was actually a youkai who fed on human life energy. It suddenly made sense why Shiro felt better after pressing against people, and why everyone around her kept dying.
Shiro didn't want to hear it, though. She rejected what Kitarou and Medama-Oyaji were telling her and headed back to Masae. But when Masae's health took a nosedive after touching Sunekosuri, Shiro bailed again.
