Nan grew up in a small village nestled in the demilitarized zone of the Rice Field Country. The place was unremarkable except for one thing: a modest gold mine that made it a target. With no government authority to protect them, bandits eventually came—led by a man named Shiin—and the raid was devastating. They killed about a third of the village before it was over.
Nan and her brother Ran made it through alive. In the chaos, she ended up taking in Fuki, a young girl who'd lost both parents in the attack. She raised her from that point on.
