Gemnemo is a rare case—a conscious, intelligent microbe with a taste for causing harm. What sets him apart in the microbial world is that he's the first of his kind to crack sorcerology, which basically nobody saw coming.
His big thing is a technique he calls the "hyper augmented method for accelerated cytological division," though it's less fancy than it sounds: he can make living organisms bigger and stronger. It's enhancement magic applied to biology, and it works.
When Gemnemo shows up in Hellsalem's Lot, he spots Riel—a guy who's spent his whole life physically frail and dealing with relentless bullying because of it. Gemnemo sees an opportunity. He offers Riel his procedure, promising real strength and a chance to finally get revenge on everyone who ever made him feel weak or inferior. The pitch is simple: let me remake you, and you can hurt them the way they hurt you.
