Aldnoah.Zero During the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, astronauts stumbled upon a massive hypergate on the moon that opened a path to Mars. What they found there was Aldnoah—an ancient alien technology that kickstarted humanity's expansion across the solar system. Settlers flooded to Mars and established the Vers Empire, but over time, resentment built between the Martian colonists and Earth. The tension exploded into open war, which ended catastrophically when the hypergate was destroyed during the "Heavens Fall" incident. The moon was annihilated, and Earth got pummeled by meteors, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Fifteen years later, things have cooled off into an uneasy truce. Princess Asseylum Vers Allusia comes to Earth as a goodwill ambassador, hoping to bridge the gap between the two worlds. But plenty of people on both sides would rather see war resume. When terrorists target the princess for assassination, Martian forces use it as the perfect excuse to launch a full invasion from orbit—and this time, they're not interested in negotiating.
