In an alternate 1960s, two superpowers dominate the globe after a brutal war: the Zirnitra Union and the United Kingdom of Arnack. Both are locked in a desperate race to put humans in space first, and the Union has a dark secret—the Nosferatu Project. The plan is to use vampires as test subjects for their spacecraft, figuring that beings similar to humans but universally despised make the perfect expendable guinea pigs. Lev Leps, a Union soldier training to become a cosmonaut, gets assigned to oversee vampire N44, also known as Irina Luminesk, who's been selected for the program. The catch? He's developing feelings for her, which definitely wasn't part of the job description. With mounting pressure and genuine danger closing in, the two have to figure out if either of them will actually make it to space alive.
