Synopsis

Kong Hongjun grew up isolated on Mount Taiheng as a half-yao, so when he finally gets his shot at exploring the human world, he's given three objectives: find out who killed his father, wipe out the Black Jiao and its yao followers hiding in Chang'an, and return a magical artifact called the Heart Lamp to a Chen family descendant. Things go sideways immediately—on his first night in the city, the Heart Lamp accidentally ends up inside Li Jinglong, a military general. Then Kong Hongjun gets recruited into Chang'an's Court of Exorcism, where he's shocked to find Li Jinglong is now his captain. Together with a yao ally, a foreign nobleman, and an anxious scholar, they're tasked with hunting down the yao infesting the city. The catch is that Li Jinglong hates yao, so Kong Hongjun has to keep his true nature hidden while somehow figuring out how to get the Heart Lamp back from Li Jinglong's body.
