Mutta Nanba's always believed he has to stay one step ahead of his younger brother Hibito—it's what older brothers do. So when the two of them spot something weird in the night sky back in 2006, and Hibito decides he's going to be an astronaut and reach the Moon, Mutta makes his own promise: he'll go to Mars instead. Fast forward to 2019. Hibito's now working with NASA, about to make history as the first Japanese person to land on the moon. Meanwhile, Mutta just got fired from his job in car development and can't seem to catch a break finding work. Then out of nowhere, he gets a letter from JAXA—Japan's space agency—saying he's been accepted into their astronaut training program. It feels like the universe is finally handing him his shot at keeping that old promise. So Mutta decides to go for it, even though becoming an astronaut is anything but easy.
