In the magical world of Zyword, the Holy Valstoke Church attacked the kingdom of Araimel, leaving it defenseless and trapped under a deep sleep spell. Only two people survived: the 14-year-old Princess Lunatia and her companion Roddy. Lunatia's a Decipherer and Roddy's a Spell Breaker, both with magical abilities that might actually matter. Their plan is to collect Spell Balls—the source of all magic in the world—and find the Dawn Shield spell, which could be powerful enough to break the curse and save everyone. While fighting an enemy goddess, they run into a mysterious boy among the monster soldiers. He's got no memory and his entire body is covered in seventy thousand spell markings. They name him Ride and decide he's worth having around. The three of them end up traveling together across Zyword, taking on the Goddesses of Chaos one by one.
