Sixteen-year-old Nanakusa lives a quiet, uneventful life on Stairway Island—a place where about 2000 people have washed up with no memory of how they got there or what came before. The island got its name from the massive stairway cutting through it, supposedly leading all the way up to where a witch makes her home. Legend has it that the only way off the island is to find what you've lost. But Nanakusa isn't interested in leaving. He's actually content with his life there. Everything changes when Manabe Yuu—his childhood friend—suddenly shows up. Seeing Manabe, of all people, stranded on the island throws everything into chaos.
