Synopsis

Hachiman Hikigaya is a cynical loner at Soubu High School, shaped by past social failures that left him with dead fish eyes and a twisted outlook on life. When he writes an essay dismissing youth and optimism as denial-driven delusions, his homeroom teacher Shizuka Hiratsuka forces him into the Volunteer Service Club—hoping that helping others might actually change him for the better. He finds he's not alone there. Yukino Yukinoshita, the school's most beautiful girl, is already a member and fellow loner, though she's colder and sharper than him. After they help Yui Yuigahama with her own problems, she joins too, and the club starts taking on requests from students across campus. The problem is Hachiman's methods work, but they're unorthodox—often solving people's issues in ways that come with their own hidden costs.
